US Naval TPS Flight Test Manual 103: Fixed Wing Stability And Control
This text presents basic fixed wing stability and control theory, qualitative and quantitative test and evaluation techniques, and data presentation methods. In most sections, more than one technique is described for each test to account for variations in the amount of instrumentation available and the personal preference of the individual test pilot. Qualitative stability and control tests with particular pilot tasks required in the performance of the total mission of the airplane. The pilot's opinion of a particular flying quality will consequently depend primarily on the pilot workload while performing the desired task. Quantitative evaluation techniques presented may be used to substantiate pilot opinion or gather data for documentation of airplane characteristics. The performance of both qualitative testing and quantitative evaluation is considered essential for any successful flying qualities investigation.
